Battling Motherhood Anxiety

From the moment I found out that I would be a mom, began to feel extreme motherhood anxiety! Along with all the little fears that go along with being a new mom like “am I feeding him the right away” ,or, “do I call the doctor over that sneeze”…I also began to feel anxiety over the thought of losing this child that I had waited so long for.

Motherhood Anxiety

I will lose my child.

I think this is every mother’s greatest fear. Losing her child due to sickness, disease, or an accident.

At times this fear can become completely overwhelming. IF I meditate on it for too long I can feel the anxiety begin to cripple me.

But… God HAS NOT called us to live in a state of fear and anxiety, He has called us to live in freedom. John 14:27  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

God does NOT want motherhood anxiety…He WANTS…

  • He wants nothing or no one to be before Him. Mathew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
  • He wants us to realize that they belong to Him and He has a plan for them. Jeremiah 29:11
  • He wants us to make the most of the time that he gives us. Ephesians 5:15-16 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.
  • He wants us to train the hearts of our children while we have them. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
  • He wants us to trust in His sovereign plan. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
  • He wants us to cast all of our anxieties at His feet. 1 Peter 5:7  casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
  • He wants is to remember that He has already numbered ours and our children’s days- Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

We can not live a life in fear…We have to put God first and Glorify Him as we love, train, and invest into our children. And we should remember that no one loves our children or us like God loves us.

Psalm 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Hold tight to his promises and love for us. Rest in His peace and trust in His plan.

NOW!!!….For the Greatest part of all….It’s time to lay our fears down!

We are not called to live a life in fear and anxiety but to live for our God!
Life is precious and short…If we spend out time crippled in fear we will never truly be able to live the life that God has called us to.

We have one shot, one chance at life on Earth…I pray we use it to show others (and our children) what peace, joy, hope, & purpose we have in this life BECAUSE WE HAVE JESUS! It is hard to show others these things when we allow anxiety to hold us captive.

So…

Whatever burdens you are carrying, whatever fears are binding you write them out, surrender them, pray about them, and lay them at the feet of Jesus.

Mathew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Three Ways to Battle Your Anxiety

  1. Memorize ScriptureRepeat these scripture when you feel anxiety rising within you.
  2. Spend time with God daily Read the Word of God and pray each day. Spending time in the presence of God will help put both your mind and soul at peace.
  3. Be careful what you listen to and watch- If all we do is listen and watch news reports and read news articles then we will be sacred strait! Make sure you are being cautious the information that you allow in your mind…Be sure to fill your mind and heart will good things such as; scripture, Christian books, music, and things that make you happy/relaxed!

Exchange your motherhood anxiety for His peace….

Here is a prayer if you want  help getting started…

Dear Lord,

I thank you for these precious children. They are a gift from you and I know they are not mine but yours. They were created by your hands and you still hold them in your hands. I pray that the fear of losing them or what they will become will overtake me no more. I pray for the grace to live in your freedom with your peace surrounding me. I know each day is a gift with them so I pray that you please help me to make the most of every moment that You give me. Help me to pour truth into their lives. Help me to teach them the truth, show them the truth, and reach their hearts for You. Lord I am weak but You are strong. I will fail but You never will. I lay every fear, regret, mistake, and burden that I am carrying as a mother at your feet. I give it all to You. Use me Lord and help me to be the mother that You have called me to be. I thank you for everything my Father.
In Jesus Name,
Amen.

MARCH ON MOMMA!…

Now as you walk victoriously in the peace and grace of Christ you can do this mothering thing with faith, boldness, trust, peace, hope, and even joy! You can give it all you have and trust that the grace of God is enough to bless you and your children.

No more living in the bondage of motherhood anxiety!!!!…But instead let’s live a faithful, intentional life that mirrors the likeness of Christ.

We just have to make the most of each moment, live in freedom, walk faithfully as mothers, make our children a high priority, trust in God and His plan, and know that He is for us and not against us! Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

The only hope we have to live this life without crippling anxiety is to hold so tight to the promises of God, hold the Word of God so closely, and hold tight to the fact that God will be with us at all times.

We must cling to our Father and be rooted in His love and truth…then we can truly live!

Stay Steadfast,
